Isny Castle is a historic building that was founded in 1096 as a monastery. After a severe city fire in 1631, the monastery was rebuilt in the Baroque style and today serves as a home for art and culture. The palace houses three institutions: the art gallery, the municipal gallery in the palace and the new town museum Isny.
The work of the Isny artist Friedrich Hechelmann can be seen in the art gallery in the palace. Regularly changing exhibitions of contemporary art take place in the municipal gallery in the castle. Painting, photography, installations and sculptures are presented. Readings and concerts await you in the Red Salon. The gallery of the Marienkapelle was added as an exhibition space in 2018. From here, visitors have a great view of the Gothic Madonna and the three altars in one of the most beautiful chapels in the foothills of the Alps.
Since 2021, the newly designed Isny City Museum has also found its place in Isny Castle. Here visitors can gain exciting insights into the history of the city of Isny. Numerous exhibits such as historical documents, works of art and artefacts from everyday life give an insight into the culture and history of the city.
